Military and Veterans Benefits Specialist

At WGU, we are committed to helping students achieve their educational goals through exceptional service and support. As a Military and Veterans Benefits Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring military-affiliated students receive the benefits and assistance they have earned. This position serves as a trusted resource for students, military agencies, and internal stakeholders by administering military-related benefit programs, maintaining compliance, and helping students navigate benefit processes throughout their educational journey.
What You'll Do
Administer and coordinate military-related benefit programs for eligible students.
Prepare and distribute information regarding military and veteran education benefits.
Submit attendance certifications and related documentation for new and continuing students.
Verify student eligibility and maintain accurate records regarding benefit entitlement and status.
Serve as a liaison between students, the Department of Veterans Affairs, military entities, and other external agencies to resolve claims, billing, and payment issues.
Maintain organized and compliant student files, records, and documentation while ensuring confidentiality.
Process payments, invoices, and required paperwork accurately and within established timelines.
What You'll Bring
High school diploma or equivalent.
2 years of experience in financial aid, student services, customer service, or a related field.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to build positive relationships and provide exceptional support to students and colleagues.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and student-focused service.
Bonus Points
Knowledge of or experience working with VA education benefit programs.
Experience using Banner or another student information management system.
Experience supporting military-affiliated students in an educational environment.
