Mentoring and guiding students to unlock their potential is one of the most rewarding experiences in my career. After the tragic loss of my brother in a house fire in 1996, I made the decision to become a nurse so I could dedicate my life to helping others. Today, as a mentor, I have the privilege of supporting current nurses as they expand their knowledge and skills, ultimately preparing them to make an even greater impact in the lives of those they serve. Mentoring is more than guiding students to earn their degree-it is helping them solve problems, celebrating their successes, and supporting them as they navigate challenges along the way.

I love teaching Health Assessment to post-licensure nurses because it is where experience finally meets intention. Watching nurses pause, connect the dots, and understand WHY they assess what they assess is one of the most rewarding parts of my role. I am passionate about helping nurses move beyond checklists and into confident clinical reasoning that directly impacts patient care. Those lightbulb moments remind nurses that they are not starting from scratch, they are refining a skill set they already use every day.

I enjoy my role as Course Instructor because it gives me the opportunity to engage with students from a variety of places across the nation. Each student has a unique story, and as Course Instructors, I believe we play an instrumental role in helping students achieve their academic goals and career aspirations. Special connections are formed during one-on-one calls and group cohort sessions, as we assist students in learning key concepts. Most importantly, I remind students they are not alone; WGU provides a community of learning with peers and faculty to help them succeed.

Being an Evaluator is such a special role, because as an Evaluator, I have the privilege to be a part of the student's journey from some of their very first course assessment submissions, leading up to their final courses, where we get to see them grow, apply their real-life experiences, and build on new concepts that they have learned from the course curriculum. We are committed to providing our students with feedback that is accurate, fair, timely, helpful, and meaningful to their academic success. I love being an evaluator because I know that every single day, with each evaluation completed, we remain student-obsessed, doing what we do for the love of our students and dedicated to giving them our very best, just as they do with each task they submit to us.
